Living Systems is a leading West Coast provider of counselling, education, training and research based on Bowen family systems theory.

Each one of us is born into the emotional environment of the family. In that environment, we develop both strengths and weaknesses. The strengths, generally, take care of themselves. The weaknesses lead to ways of reacting and interacting more out of our feeling and anxiety state than from our beliefs and principles.

Systems therapy offers us a way of exploring the family dynamics that wire us for the world. It offers a way to think about, and over time, work toward altering that wiring. The long-term goal is a greater ability to enter into a more open, honest and effective way of relating to the important people in our lives.

Since 1971, Living Systems has been offering people that opportunity based on Bowen family systems theory. Whether you’re here to find a counsellor, to learn more about Bowen theory or just to browse, we welcome you.

New Name

Because the work of North Shore Counselling Centre has expanded beyond the North Shore and offers more than counselling, we have adopted a new name. Living Systems reflects our commitment to counselling, education, post-graduate training and research based on Bowen family systems theory. And it reflects our belief that the more we learn about the principles that govern ‘living systems,’ such as the human family, the more we can understand ourselves and our behavior.
